[Aug 2024] We are on the Rutgers team that received an award from the US Army Corps of Engineers! Working with the Riman and Sills group at Rutgers MSE and the Nassif group at Rutgers CEE, we will develop cost effective and zero-carbon cement using recycled concrete rubble. [Aug 2024] Our group was awarded an NSF CBET grant! We will lead an effort to investigate the fate and conversion mechanism of microplastics during hydrothermal valorization of wet organic waste. This is a collaboration between us and the Fahrenfeld group (Rutgers CEE) as well as the Arbuckle-Keil group (Chemistry at Rutgers-Camden). [Aug 2024] We are one of the awardees of the New Jersey Water Resources Research Institute (NJWRRI)-USGS Annual Grants! Our project will evaluate an intensive microalgal process to reduce point source phosphorus load from wastewater in order to reduce eutrophication and protect our natural waters.

[Jul 2024] We are one of the awardees of the inaugural Groundwork Grants by the Rutgers Climate and Energy Institute (RCEI). This grant will enable us to develop technologies to convert Alaskan kelp (a renewable biomass feedstock) into value-added bioproducts and low-carbon fuels. Read the News Release.

[Fall 2023] Ali joined the group as a Ph.D. student. He will lead our USDA project that examines the sustainability of a hydrothermal system that converts swine manure and other organic feedstocks into biobinders for asphalt that increase the quality of recycled asphalt pavements.
